Bukidnon is a landlocked province. It is located in the northern part of Mindanao with Malaybalay City as its provincial capital. It is bounded by Misamis Oriental on the north, Agusan del Sur and Davao del Norte on the east, Davao del Sur, Davao City and North Cotabato on the south and Lanao del Sur on the west.

The province has no airports or seaports. Peolple must travel form Cagayan de Oro in the Province of Misamis Oriental of from Davao City in order to get to Bukidnon. Its economy relies heavily on agriculture, no wonder it is regarded as the “food basket of Mindanao.” It’s products are mostly rice, maize, sugar, coffee, rubber, pineapple, flowers and vegetables.

It is also a major producer of cattle, hogs and chickens. Among the major establishments found in Bukidnon are Del Monte Philippines, Incorporated (DMPI), Lapanday Diversified Products Corporation and Mt. Kitanglad Agri-Development Corporation which are into banana production. DMPI is also engaged in cattle fattening and pineapple production.

Two of the biggest sugarcane mills in the country in terms of milling capacity are also situated in Bukidnon; Busco Sugar Milling Company and Crystal Sugar Company. Food manufacturing giants like San Miguel Foods Corporation, Monterey Farms Corporation and Swift Foods, Inc. have also burgeoned in the province. Also in Bukidnon are Phil-Agro Industrial Corporation, which is into starch production, and FP Obrero Farms and ARDEM, Inc., both venturing in cut-flower production. These and many other agriculture-based industries are still developing.

The province is a renowned producer of fresh fruits and vegetables that ate either sold in the local market or exported to Japan and other neighboring countries. It is also known as a principal trader of rice, corn, sugar, potato and other commercial or industrial crops. Being the second largest producer of corn in the country today, Bukidnon is geared towards establishing its position as a principal trader of these crops in the years ahead.
